This 44"x36" wall chart shows the organizational structure of Ansar al-Sharia Libya. It identifies the emir, senior commanders, spokesmen and other senior figures within Ansar al-Sharia Benghazi and Ansar al-Sharia Darnah as well as organizational entities including the Shura Council and al-Raya Media Productions Foundation. The chart highlights the relationships between Ansar al-Sharia Libya and al-Qaeda affiliates including the Islamic State, core al-Qaeda, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Ansar al-Sharia Tunisia and the Mohammed Jamal Network. It also highlights relationships with Libyan militias including the Libya Shield Battalion, Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade, the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council, an umbrella organization for Benghazi-based militias that was established on 20 Jul. 2014 and the Majlis Shura Mujahidi Darnah (Shura Council of Darnah), an umbrella organization for Darnah-based militias that was established on 13 Dec. 2014.
Red lines indicate affiliates or mutual assistance/collaboration between groups or individuals. Blue lines indicate personal relationships between individuals. Yellow lines indicate links between individuals and groups that planned or participated in a specific attack.
The middle portion of the chart identifies the senior leaders and commanders for Ansar al-Sharia Libya, Ansar al-Sharia Darnah and Ansar al-Sharia Benghazi as well as cooperating Libyan militias. The upper left portion of the chart focuses on the links between Ansar al-Sharia Libya, core al-Qaeda and the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG). It highlights senior al-Qaeda members that played a significant role in the establishment of Ansar al-Sharia Libya including Abu Anas al-Libi and Abu Yahya al-Libi. The lower left portion of the chart focuses on links between Ansar al-Sharia Libya and the Islamic State, Ansar al-Sharia Tunisia, AQAP, AQIM and the Mohammed Jamal Network. The upper right portion of the chart focuses on senior Ansar al-Sharia Libya leadership and organizational structures. The bottom right portion of the chart focuses on links between Ansar al-Sharia Libya and the Libya Shield Battalion, Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council, Majlis Shura Mujahidi Darnah (Shura Council of Darnah) and Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade.
